About this Book

The present book, which is organized into eight chapters, deals with the pleasures, pleasures, and pleasure-seeking in Iran. The first chapter introduces the lesser-known Iranian poet "Bishagh". Bishagh is a poet whose poetry is entirely devoted to food, and is therefore known as "Food". The second chapter looks at the views of foreign travelers between 1500 and 1900. The third chapter deals with the subject of coffee and coffeehouses and how the coffee culture spread in Iran. The fourth chapter deals in detail with the social, economic, and political role of coffeehouses in Tabriz until 1971.
Chapter 5, looking back at the previous two chapters, discusses the history and process of Iran's transformation from a coffee-drinking country to a tea-drinking country; Chapter 6 addresses the issue of tobacco and tobacco drinking in Iran; Chapter 7 addresses one of the major pleasures, or rather passion, of Iranians, namely smoking tobacco; the book culminates in Chapter 8 with an analysis of the use of various drugs in Iran, especially opium, hashish, and their derivatives.
